I came to university as a mature student to study photography almost by accident. I had originally been accepted for a theatre production degree but the course was cancelled at the last minute so I applied for the only other arty course offered and was miraculously accepted. Looking back my hastily put together portfolio was pretty embarrassing.

The unexpected change of direction proved hugely serendipitous and now I wonder how I lived all those years without a camera.

Genealogy has been an interest (some would say an obsession) of mine for 20 years. Sad circumstance has brought family matters into sharp focus this year and this photobook is part of my Familial Traces work, which explores many aspects of family life and relationships.

Commercially I work as a theatre photographer, happily combining my two great loves.
